Welcome back to another No Money Mondays here at Threshold. Today, we are heading to the United States, specifically to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We are taking a look at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (KMKE), created by the well-known scenery developer iniBuilds. Known for producing payware sceneries, the team at iniBuilds has released the airport located in Wisconsin as freeware.
The original airfield, established in 1920, was named Hamilton Airport. In 1926, it was renamed Milwaukee County Airport, just before its first terminal was inaugurated in 1927. This marked the beginning of air service at the airport, with Northwest Airlines offering flights to Chicago and Minneapolis-Saint Paul. A new terminal building was constructed during the late depression years, and the airport was renamed General Mitchell Field in 1941. Throughout the Second World War, the airport was utilized as a prisoner-of-war camp. The current terminal was completed in 1955, supplemented by a new D concourse in 1990. The airport was once again renamed in 1986, this time to General Mitchell International Airport. Its latest name change occurred in 2019, when it adopted its current name, Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. Today, the airport serves over 6 million passengers annually, accommodating just over 96,000 aircraft movements, with airlines such as American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and more.
The freeware version of Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport includes various features, such as hand-crafted ground textures, custom ground decals, dynamic lighting, detailed models, an up-to-date airport layout, a GSX profile, and more.
The freeware Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator is now available for download at iniBuilds. If you haven't explored this airport yet, this is your chance to fly to the Wisconsin airport.
