Weekly News Recap: May 13

Introduction

Welcome to Threshold’s weekly news recap for today the 13th of May, 2018. We aim for this weekly piece to be a collection of all the news that we didn’t get to, as well as where we take a look back at all the headlines from the X-Plane world. The Threshold Weekly News Recap is released every Sunday.

In case you missed it:

Laminar release X-Plane 11.20Aerosoft and Stairport Sceneries release KDAB Daytona Beach,  VSkyLabs release the Rutan Long-EZ - and finally, capping off a release-full week, AudiobirdXP releases a sound pack for the X-Crafts E175/E195.

FSEnhancer adds new features to ship with 0.5.x

Enrico del Bono, developer of immersion pack FSEnhancer has released new previews of an upcoming update for the mod: version 0.5.x.

This update appears to go above and beyond what FSE was originally created for (clouds/weather), with new camera focus effects, better wave simulation and new a new shadow technique called TrueShade. Here is a list of new features to be introduced in v0.5.x:

1: "TrueShade" shadow system (HD shadows, extended draw distance). It will affect cockpit,    Aircraft exterior, environment, buildings, vegetation and forests in particular (Trees look much    more real now).

Shadows are casted even when the sun is low: amazing long shadows during sunset will    further enhance your experience.

Increased resolution: say goodbye to the old cockpit jagged shadows! Clouds shadows are    way darker now, and have a much better resolution.

   2: "TrueWaves" system.

Well... the name speaks for itself.

You can follow all the progress on the FSE Facebook page.

Skyline Simulations - 2 new projects & an update!

After the release of the LatinVFR converted MKJS Montego Bay, Skyline Simulations are hard at work on two new projects: UUBC Kaluga (Russia), and the rather hilariously named “KOBE” Okeechobee County airport, located in central Florida.

The first of these projects to be announced, UUBC Kaluga, is still in its early stages. The first look at UUBC came in the form of a render posted on the Skyline Simulations Facebook page. Here is a short snippet from the post:

“Some early work in progress shots. Kaluga located in Russia.”

Following the announcement of UUBC on Sunday came the launch of KOBE Okeechobee. This small GA field was originally called Connors Field and was used by the US Air Force during World War II.

This isn’t any old scenery announcement though. Skyline Sims. have announced that 70% of all sales will go to charity website Global Giving. See the Facebook post below to see what will happen to the 70% cut of the sales:

It “is not only just another airport. Is airport with good cause.

The 70% of total sales should be donated on GlobalGiving (to) any project that you like!

After 12 months of sales a live event will take place with share screen of Skyline server to prove    the donation and the amount of total fund.

   One more airport for life....

   Thank you all.”

There is still one more piece of Skyline news this week, with the release of version 1.1 of MKJS Montego Bay. Here is the changelog:

  • Taxiway fix
  • ATC routes fix
  • Gates fix and Airlines gates assignments
  • Vegetation recoloring
  • Concrete in parking spots
  • A small enhancement in terminal texture
  • Tower view spot
