IXEG Previews 737 Classic v1.32

The next update of IXEG's 737 Classic has - like previous versions - been previewed by Jan Vogel, one of the developers of the popular airliner for X-Plane.

His demonstration of the upcoming version was done through another YouTube video, which can be watched in full below. As usual, Threshold has taken the liberty of summarising what was covered, available to read further down this page.

The first bug that was addressed by Vogel involved the FMC and the N, S, E, and W keys on the keypad.

These were interpreted as compass directions and waypoints could not be entered starting with N or S, and waypoints ending in E or W.

Vogel stated this required a large rewrite of how procedures, airways, and routes are handled by the two FMCs and resulted in increased stability of the overall modules.

However, holds have not yet been addressed in this update, but it does lay much of the groundwork required for an update to the VNAV code, which many users see as one of the largest flaws of the aircraft.

Moreover, v1.32 will not fix these VNAV issues, as Vogel elaborated: "This is not a VNAV rewrite yet - that is going to come - we laid the groundwork for that in this update, but what really happened here is we started getting the FMS more stable, we want you to be able to swap and change procedures, and of course we also finalised and completed the entry of pilot created waypoints."

Furthermore, Vogel has spent some time improving the particle system for the aircraft, including APU exhaust and fire, tyre smoke, engine inlet condensation, and more. See the screenshots below for an idea of the effects implemented.

Another bug that has been squashed that many had complained about was the inverted scroll wheel for up and down actions.

An issue with the IRS selectors in virtual reality was also addressed, whilst in the audio aspect of the 737, the volumes for the radio panels - including NAVAID IDs and markers - have been increased.

A coroute folder has now been added to the installation. The lack of this folder resulted in hard crashes as the system is unable to see the absent folder and create it. Coroutes only save enroute information and do not take into account SIDs, STARs, approach information, and more.

Much of the remainder of the video was spent demonstrating the improvements to the FMC outlined above, such as the insertion of manual waypoints into the FMC - including radial/direction waypoints - and showing improvements in the legs page.

The video concluded with on-screen text showing v1.32 being available within a couple of days. Threshold will keep you informed on its progress and release.
