AirFoilLabs Unveils Development of Douglas C-47

Aircraft and scenery developer AirFoilLabs has posted two images of a new aircraft in development on the x-plane.org forum.

In a new, pinned thread titled 'Guess what!', the developer posted two renders of the interior appearing to show an old, military variant of the interior.

Those that know their aircraft interiors, including one such user who was the first to reply, are likely aware that this is the interior of the Douglas C-47.

This is, of course, a military variant, and the precise model that is being developed has not yet been stated.

In a separate comment, AirFoilLabs said more information is to come soon, whilst simultaneously confirming it is a model of the DC-3.

The Douglas DC-3 was developed from the DC-2 and revolutionised the airline industry in the 1930s and 1940s. It was able to fly from and to anywhere in the continental United States of America and considered the first to be profitable. 607 were built, and some still remain in service today.

The C-47 shares a similar story in military operation. With more than 10,000 built, it was utilised extensively by the Allies during the Second World War, and to date has been operated by over ninety countries around the world.

Renditions of the DC-3 and C-47 in X-Plane 11 are available from several developers already. The most notable of these are VSKYLABS Aerospace Simulations with their C-47 Skytrain Flying Lab Project, Leading Edge Simulations with a Douglas DC-3, and the free Aeroworx C-47 Dakota.

As and when further information on the development emerges, Threshold will be sure to report on it.
