The Aerostar 601P is the brainchild of Ted R. Smith, known as the father of the Aero Commander series. The aircraft was built as Smith's personal speed machine and could reach speeds of up to 492km/h (306mph).

Avia71 took it upon themselves to develop the Aerostar for X-Plane and it has now been updated to feature full compatibility with VR and the RealityXP GTN750. The update also brings the Aerostar up to X-Plane 11.30 standard, with new de-icing systems being the main benefit of this.
