Aerosoft & 29Palms release Mykonos for Microsoft Flight Simulator

July 23, 2021

Over on the Aerosoft forums, Mathijs Kok has announced the release of Mykonos, developed by 29Palms. The Greek tourist hotspot is 29Palms’  first venture into Microsoft Flight Simulator, a long awaited scenery for many, since its announcement at the beginning of 2021. With previews being shared at the start of February, pilots searching for the virtual sun have been eager for the release.

The airport serves all the major european carriers, including easyJet and Ryanair, and is famously called ‘The Island of Winds’ due to its high gusts from the surrounding terrain. This, accompanied with the 6200ft long runway, will make for some very interesting approaches.

The scenery features the current airport layout, with seven parking spots available, as well as all the standard features, including high definition textures and ground polygons, custom night lighting, and many Point Of Interests around the area, such as lighthouses and windmills. It also includes the new fire station, completed in May 2021, showing just how current this airport is. The airport also takes advantage of the MSFS SDKs new mesh editing features to create an accurate sloping runway profile, adding to the challenge.

Mathijs also noted that 29Palms had booked a trip to Mykonos, to collect reference images for future updates. This will come at no extra charge.

Alongside the release, Mathijs included a full list of features included with the scenery:

  • Detailed representation of the terraforming of the airport’s surrounding area
  • Sloped runway
  • High-detailed 3d objects and buildings
  • High detailed ground polygons and textures
  • Animated apron vehicles
  • Custom animated windsocks
  • Detailed representation of the airport’s parking area
  • High detailed apron including the new airport’s layout lines and signs
  • High detailed night lighting
  • Fully custom taxiway, runway, reil and tower beacon lights
  • Custom Hazard beacon lights on top of the surrounding hills
  • Custom boats and ships at the island’s port
  • Three new heliports are present in the scenery
  • Three characteristic landmarks have been added

29Palms' Mykonos can be purchased over on the Aerosoft Store for €15.08 / £13 (inc VAT) or alternatively on the Contrail Shop.
