Orbx Releases TrueEarth US Florida & Key West Airport for X-Plane

Scenery house Orbx has released the latest in their TrueEarth US series, having made the jump to the US East Coast following entries in California, Oregon and Washington previously.

Additionally, just after the announcement of Florida’s release, the team also launched the first TrueEarth Florida-compatible airport: Key West (KEYW). Developed by Orbx partner Gaya Simulations, the airport was announced late last year, made completely from scratch and purpose-built for X-Plane 11.

Orbx PR head Ed Correia says of the new TrueEarth region: “Soak up the sun! We are pleased to announce the release of TrueEarth Florida for X-Plane 11!”

“The sun beats down on the state of Florida all year giving it its common name of the Sunshine State. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other, Florida has mile upon mile of white sandy beaches, several thriving metropolises and a diverse range of culture and ethnicity. With the power of the Orbx TrueEarth technology, this is Florida like you’ve never seen it before!

“Exactly as we have done with previous TrueEarth regions for X-Plane, Florida will be available in two versions - high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD). The only difference between these two products is the ground texture resolution.

“If disk space is a concern, check out the SD version of which provides the same regional coverage, but using less disk space. The slightly reduced texture resolution still provides incredible detail and enables smoother performance for those with older graphics cards. If you prefer the full fidelity, we recommend the HD version for best resolution.”

Following just minutes after came news of Key West Airport, which is now also available. Once again it was Ed Correia who broke the news to customers over on the group’s forum, welcoming fans to the “Conch Republic” located some 90 km from Cuba.

Key West is another of Orbx’s fully PBR textured airports, like that of London City and Tacoma Narrows released in 2019. The airport also features:

  • Ultra-high-resolution satellite imagery surrounding the airport
  • Plenty of detailed 3D models from terminal buildings to road signage
  • Includes surrounding buildings such as hotels and major landmarks
  • Fully PBR compliant for the most realistic looking models
  • Visually breathtaking approach along the coast
  • Several static aircraft bringing the airport to life
  • Seamlessly blends into TrueEarth US Florida

You can buy the TrueEarth Florida HD version on OrbxDirect for $69.95 AUD, and the SD version for $58.95 AUD. If you purchased the HD version but wish to use the SD copy, you can do so for free. Upgrading to HD from SD will cost $11 AUD, though. Manual downloads are not available for this product: Orbx Central is now the only installation method.

For a limited time, you can pick up the newly released Key West Airport for a 25% discount at 14.71AUD (offer ends 10 February 2020 11:00am UTC).
