Released: Orbx debut XP Airport, Meigs Field

To much anticipation, ORBX has released their very first product for X-Plane: Meigs Field! Known previously for their vocal resistance for X-Plane support, X-Plane 11 has turned their heads and convinced the Scenery Giant to experiement and consider X-Plane. So today, X-Planers now get to enjoy their very first conversion, none other than their popular Meigs Field scenery that is available on MSFS, P3D and Aerofly. Like the Aerofly rendition, the X-Plane version covers beyond the airport itself, and includes the surrounding skyline and the suburbs inland with extended orthoimagery coverage.

Here are the main features:

  • An ultra-detailed rendition of KCGX Meigs Field circa late 90's and early 2000's
  • Many highly detailed Chicago landmarks, including Soldier Field, Cloudgate, Adler Planetarium, Navy Pier and The Shedd
  • Custom CBD for Chicago skyline including Sears Tower, Aeon Center, Trump Tower, Hancock Center
  • Thousands of autogen buildings accurately placed
  • Beautifully modelled static aircraft
  • Airport imagery at 30cm per pixel
  • Extended photoreal at 1m per pixel
  • Orbx first X-Plane release!

Meigs Field is a familiar place to Flight Simmers in MSFS, being the default airport for many versions of the Simulator, unfortunately the real world counterpart was demolished by the Mayor of Chicago and the land in which the airport previously sat is a public green space called Northerly Island. With the team's debut, users now have two versions to choose from; the freeware Aerobridge or the payware ORBX rendition.

Pricing is $25.60, and is installable through FTX Central, unfortunately the software is not available in other OSes, although ORBX Chief John Venema willprovide .zip archives for other users so they won't be left out. In due time, hopefully the team would develop an appropriate version of the management tool for use outside Windows. Here is to the future of flight simulation!

If you have previously purchased Meigs for Prepar3D or Aerofly FS 2, you'll receive 40% off Meigs for X-Plane.
