Flightbeam Studios Updates San Francisco International Airport for MSFS

Flightbeam Studios recently issued a new update to their rendition of San Francisco International Airport (KSFO) for Microsoft Flight Simulator, which includes performance enhancements, bug fixes, extra customizability, and more.

Update 1.2—the second update since its release in mid-2024—brings new custom taxi lights, which do not rely on the SDK to create their glow and appearance. They are tailored to their preferences to match their real-world counterparts and meticulously hand-placed throughout the airport. It also introduces an accurate representation of the ILS antennas used at SFO.

The update also allows you to remove ground clutter partially or entirely (so you don’t get tangled with GSX stuff). The developers note that this will not improve performance much as it’s already extensively optimized as is (with the clutter enabled).

Night lighting is said to have undergone improvements, with improved visibility and effects at close range.

Geographic position markings were added to help with low visibility procedures, matching the real-life counterpart.

The complete changelog for the update follows below:

  • Added pink geographic position markings on certain taxiways
  • Added custom taxi lights - directional and custom lighting (TAA recommended)
  • Relocated windsocks to proper locations
  • Added custom, detailed ILS Glideslope antenna models to proper locations
  • Added options in Contrail to control density of gate clutter. Medium setting will remove clutter that can collide with GSX GSE and other active GSE. (not available for Marketplace purchases)
  • Fixed floating groove marks on 19L and 19R
  • Tweaked light poles for better lighting FX
  • various other fixes and tweaks.

The scenery is available on Contrail for roughly $21, requiring at least 2.58 GB of free hard disk space to install.
