Cameron, founder of X-Aviation, has announced in a forum post on the X-Pilot forum the release of SkyMaxx Pro v4.9.0. This update includes bug fixes, new features and brings experimental support for Vulkan, which is the new X-Plane API engine for Windows. Metal, the new engine for Mac is not supported yet.

METAR cloud heights are now converted from Above Ground Level (AGL) to Main Sea Level (MSL) using the elevation of the reporting weather station, not the elevation of the viewpoint. Also, the max number of precipitation particles was increased. In the menu of SkyMaxx Pro, a new "weather reload" option was added.

The full list of changes in this update is as follows:

  • Lower default scattered coverage from 40% to 30% when weather data does not specify a coverage value
  • Increase max number of precipitation particles
  • Fix fog and cloud/terrain blending in VR
  • Added new "force weather reload" menu option
  • More accurate cloud altitudes when used with Real Weather Connector
  • METAR cloud heights converted from AGL to MSL using the elevation of the reporting weather station, not the elevation of the viewpoint
  • Experimental Vulkan support for X-Plane 11.50

Existing users can obtain the update free of charge, with further details of the installation process available in the original announcement.

SkyMaxx Pro v4 is available to buy at the X-Aviation website for $39.95, where Real Weather Connector can also be found.
