Preview: Ikarus C42 by VFlyteAir

Mario Donick from VFlyteAir has posted new screenshots of the upcoming Ikarus C42. Currently in the alpha stage of development, Mario is basing this aircraft off of a C42 that he has flown for real - D-MYSF.

The Ikarus C42 is a fixed gear, single engine microlight aircraft, designed to carry the pilot and one other passenger. The C42 has a range of just under 700km (432 miles) and can be equipped with either an 80 or 100hp Rotax engine.

Posting to the X-Plane forums, Mario said;

The following screenshots show an alpha version during an early-morning flight from EDAH to EDCP. The C42 is the aircraft I learn flying with, and the particular plane shown is a quite exact replica of the actual D-MYSF, in which I'll spend many more hours.

I already like its flying behaviour (it's quite close already to what I experience with the real D-MYSF) and that we actually have semi-transparent fabric on the wings and tail (where you can see through and notice the aluminium struts).

There is still a lot to be done until the plane reaches beta state, in all areas: visuals (esp. the interior), sounds (this is the first time we'll use the help of a professional audio engineer to record the C42's sounds), systems (well... it does not have many), flight model refinements, menus (the usual vFlyteAir stuff, plus a virtual walkaround) and VR support (once published, the model will actually part of a research project on the training possibilities of X-Plane and VR for real-world flight training for small flying schools and flying clubs).

As hinted in the post, the C42 will have all the bells and whistles of a VFlyteAir aircraft, as well as custom recorded sounds, VR walkaround and full interior VR support.

This adds one more quality GA aircraft in development at the moment, and one certainly to look forward to.
