After announcing the project in late August 2020, Windsock Simulations have been hard at work developing Madrid Airport for X-Plane 11 in partnership with Maps2XPlane. This scenery is a conversion of the popular SimWings Mega Airport Madrid for P3D.

The scenery will include many aspects commonly found in high quality sceneries including SAM Jetways, custom ortho imagery, and more. “There is Custom Mesh for the Control Tower, so there will be an Ortho4XP Patch provided with the product as per our other release”, the team mentions.

When contacted by Threshold, Windsock developers Emma Bentley and Ashley Jones noted that the feature list was similar to the Prepar3D version with some differences.

You can check out the X-Plane feature list below:

  • Mega Airport Madrid-Barajas with all buildings and service facilities like VOR, ILS
  • Aerial imagery for the airport and its close environment (total of 400 km²)
  • Autogen buildings and vegetation for the entire aerial image area
  • Detailed airport buildings, terminal 4 and terminal 4 satellite with interior equipment
  • Detailed animated jetway models utilizing SAM Jetways (AutoGate not supported)
  • Docking systems at all gates and functional windsocks
  • Partly prerendered shadowing/night lighting
  • Detailed ground markings
  • Scenery and aerial image are georeferenced to ensure best possible compatibility with other add-ons
  • Animated vehicle traffic on the apron and around the airport
  • Simple installation: no changes to default configurations necessary

Windsock Simulations also exclusively confirmed that they are working on Newquay airport from the ground up, not as a conversion like many of the previous airports from the developer.

Both developers state that no official price or release date have been decided but they aim for a Quarter 2 release. You can check out the original scenery available for Prepar3D, which you can purchase for EUR 33.23 in the Aerosoft Store. In the meantime, you can check out the original post on the group’s Facebook page.
