Laminar Research Previews A330 in X-Plane 12

Earlier in the day, Laminar Research posted a short video that previews its upcoming Airbus A330 in X-Plane 12. The video, around two and half minutes in length, shows the various aspects of the aircraft, from the cabin to the engine, while demonstrating the numerous new features X-Plane 12 will be bringing.

The video confirmed that the aircraft is essentially ready on the visual front, with segments showcasing the modeling work for the A330’s exterior, cabin, and flight deck. The developers also features the plane’s systems where they demonstrated the messages displayed on the ECAM panels in various situations that range from engine start to engine fire. Additionally, the video offers us a sneak peak of the liveries that will come with the A330 by showing the aircraft in the colors of Air Canada, Virgin Atlantic, SWISS, Cathay Pacific, and AirAsia.

Apart from the aircraft itself, the video also indirectly shows the new features and improvements that will be coming to the new simulator. From the video, we can see the new volumetric clouds and rain effects, as well as the reflection of water on the tarmac and the flames that are coming out of the engines during an engine failure. At night, the video pointedly highlights the revamped graphics in which one can see the delicate interplay between the reflections and the photometric lighting.

Laminar remains tight lipped on a specific release window, though small details here and there are being dropped in the days leading up to this video's publication. Most recently, the team has published the system requirements for the upcoming simulator, recommending at least an 8th gen i5 or a Zen 2 Ryzen 5 witha minimum 4GB VRAM or a GTX 1070/AMD Equivalent for smooth quality flying, the minimum specs asks for a 4 core CPU, 8GB Ram and at least 2GB VRAM.
