Nimbus Simulations Studios have just announced in a Facebook post the development of an iconic regional aircraft, the Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander for X-Plane 11.

The BN-2 Islander is a twin-engine regional plane used all around the world for its very short takeoff and landing distance capability. It is notably used by Loganair in Scotland to service the world’s shortest commercial flight between Westray and Papa Westray.

This announcement comes just hours later after Torquesim, another X-Plane developer, announced the imminent release of their own BN-2 this Friday.

In their Facebook post, Nimbus posted 61 in-sim screenshots of the plane. From previews, it seems like the aircraft is equipped with analogue instruments and a Bendix radio-stack. Furthermore, we can see that Physically Based Rendering (PBR) has been applied to the exterior fuselage.

The previews were taken around Nimbus’ rendition of St. Barths Airport, a French island in the Caribbean known for its dangerous approach and short runway, the typical Islander destination!

Our own Will Reynolds commented on the post asking whether the plane would have a failure system. The developer answered:

“Failures?….you better fly her with care!”

In September, Nimbus released their UH-1 Huey for X-Plane, check out our article about it.
