UK2000 Pauses Work to Focus on FS2020

Taking to Facebook to share the news, UK2000 is the latest in a swath of multi-platform developers to announce its intentions for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.

The announcement yesterday of Microsoft Flight Simulator's August 18 release date has spurred urgency for a number of developers in the scene, as Orbx and Gaya Simulations have both issued hurried statements confirming their moves onto the new platform.

The British developer has perhaps been the most open about it's relationship with the new simulator, declaring at the start of June 2020 that "we now have access to the alpha version of MSFS 2020 and access to the SDK", after a public spat earlier in the year in which they claimed "we're not one of their valued 50 developer partners."

Today's post confirms that porting of existing sceneries will begin in the next month, with the note that this may be hindered by an 'incomplete' SDK.

"Customers need to understand that MSFS2020 is not a simple sim change like P3D V4 to P3D V5, or even FS2004 to FSX. The move to MSFS2020 is more like Windows to Linux, it is totally different in every way."

"MSFS2020 uses a new model format, new AFD structures and a new terrain system, even the tools and workflow is different."

The scenery developer does not have the same advantage as other developers when it comes to size and therefore must pause development on 'all other work' to focus on the new simulator. This includes all new airports, updates and bug fixes.

There's no solid date on when these will resume, rather an affirmation that they will 'just be delayed by a few months.'
