After the release of Sim Update 5 for Microsoft Flight Simulator, FlyingIron Simulations have updated their Spitfire MK IXc to version 1.03, taking advantage of some new SDK features included with the latest update.

On the blog post over on the website, Dan and Alex detailed some of the features included in this latest update. As well as the standard bug fixes and model improvements, the team have tweaked the interaction system to use the new Xbox standard, on top of the current PC standard.

Furthermore, the developers are taking advantage of the brand new particle effect system included in SU5, to bring visual effects such as smoke, contrails and tyre effects. This will be further expanded in the future, to include things such as fire, condensation and other effects.

FlyingIron simulations have also now integrated the default Garmin 430 as an optional extra to the cockpit, for those wanting an easier method of navigating, this can be toggled on and off easily. Similarly, the engine damage system is also optional now, and can be toggled via the Radio Preset Button D.

A full feature list was also provided with the update:

  • Implementation of the new UI & Interaction system – including improved tooltips and controls (primer & door controls fixed)
  • Integration of Garmin 430 GPS in the cockpit – gunsight can now be toggled between gunsight & GPS via the Gunsight Reticle switch
  • Addition of basic Visual FX – engine smoke, contrails, tyre particles etc. More to come in future updates!
  • Integrated engine block vibrations
  • Numerous Flight Model & Ground Handling refinements & improvements (By GotGravel)
  • Refined & improved Oxygen system realism
  • Engine Damage now optional – can be toggled ON/OFF via Radio Preset Button D
  • Improved Prop Animation
  • Fixed lighting knob controls
  • Fixed temperature gauge dropouts & bugs
  • Numerous bug fixes & miscellaneous improvements to Art & systems

Clearly this update is more focused on improving the experience for the more casual users, whilst enhancing the plane for everyone.

The FlyingIron Spitfire MK IXc can be purchased for 35 AUD (inc. tax), over on their store.
