Verticalsim Shares News on Microsoft Flight Simulator Plans

Popular X-Plane developer Verticalsim has shared their future plans for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The plans unveiled today included pricing for airports and ways users can purchase airports.

The developer opened their announcement post with news on the initial airports to be brought to the platform, specified to be one to three GA airports for the time being.

Outlining the reason behind the choice, the developer wrote:

“This is so I can get used to the sim and it's quirks and dynamics. Then, I'll switch back to regional and internationals.”

The developer then went on to detail some of the intricate process involved with the conversion process, writing:

“All airports from X-Plane 11 will be converted to MFS. Time will be based on the size of the airport and how much work is required.

“The ground textures will need to completely be redone from scratch, and models will have to edited to meet the new advantages of the new sim.

“Airport lighting (per airport) needs a complete overhaul to use the new sims HDR lighting.”

Penultimately, the developer addressed the pricing to expect for the converted airports, discounts for previous users, and where they will be purchasable from.

The pricing for airport categories was set out as follows:

  • General Aviation: $6-9
  • Regional $10-14
  • International: $14-20

As for discounts for previous users, Verticasim was not sure if previous X-Plane users were to receive a discount on the product for the new platform. The developer quoted the complexity of the process of porting products from the X-Plane to Microsoft Flight Simulator platform in his uncertainty.

Not completely ruling out no discount, the developer did comment the following if a discount was to be offered: “[the discount] will be small and will only apply in my store, and not on the marketplace”

Rounding off the post, X-Plane support on was touched upon. It was written that all X-Plane products will continue to be supported and updated but any new products will be majorly based on community views.
