GloballArt Releases São Paulo/Congonhas Airport For X-Plane

GloballArt has released their 5th Southern American scenery for X-Plane. Congonhas Airport, located in São Paulo, is a continental airport serving as a key hub for South American Airlines such as LATAM, GOL and Azul. With long haul flights being moved to Viracopos International Airport when jets were being developed back in the 60s, Congonhas Airport was left serving short body aircraft only.

Sao Paulo's Congonhas airport is well known to pilots for its short runway and dangerous approach. It is located in a heavily built-up part of the huge city and gives you the impression that you are scraping the tops of high rise buildings as you land. Paired with this is a runway that is considered the most slippery in the world and has resulted in a large number of fatal crashes.

Features wise, GloballArt’s rendition of the airport is up to date with the current airport layout of 2021 and contains all the features you’d come to expect in a modern X-Plane scenery product. 3D wise, it contains precise modelling of the airport’s facilities, using original references, plans and other information. All this is grounded with fully custom made groundwork and taxiway signs, with AO shadow baking for all of the objects.

One thing that the scenery misses is the lack of SAM integration, opting for the aged AutoGate implementation for jetway functionality. However other animations are also driven by Marginal’s plugin suite (which includes Autogate). To produce the distinctive topography of the airport and its surrounds, the developer made use of Mesh Remixe.
