No Money Mondays: X-Europe

Laminar Research does a fantastic job when it comes to creating autogen objects. However, they’re not so great when it comes to placing these objects. Thankfully, One X-Plane user has nailed the placement of object placement for Europe, and it’s safe to say the results are very pleasing!

This is X-Europe by simHeaven, a free addon that uses OpenStreetMap (OSM) data to place objects very precisely. OSM is a collaborative effort by people from around the world, as users help define where buildings, roads, and everything else is. Some of this data is very useful in applications such as X-Plane, which includes building height, colour and more.

X-Europe uses the data from OSM to place buildings that face the right way, build roads with much smoother bends, and populate forests with many trees. Combined with Ortho4XP and a bit of dataref tweaking, the results speak for themselves:

The best part about X-Europe is that it is available for free! You can check out simHeaven’s website here where you can download X-Europe and an array of VFR sceneries for free. Consider donating too if you value his work!
