No Money Mondays: Voss Airport Bømoen by Ehindur

It's Monday, and time for another No Money Monday. This week, we are heading to Norway's beautiful west coast and visiting Voss Airfield, Bømoen, which has been beautifully recreated in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

The airport was originally built in 1935 but did not have much time to operate, as it was quickly taken over by the German Air Force during World War II. The German occupation of Norway began on April 9, 1940. The Germans considered Bømoen important for defending Bergen, so they began work to expand the small airport in May. However, this effort was short-lived, as the Germans shifted their focus to constructing Herdla Airport instead.

Voss Flyklubb, the local flying club, was founded in 1958, and civilian traffic has been present there ever since. It plays a central role in Norwegian sports flying, and is the centre of skydiving in Norway. Military operations were halted in 2008, and the airport now exclusively accommodates civilian traffic.

I was truly impressed when I loaded into the simulator. I am already familiar with Ehindur, as I often use his excellent Bergen scenery for X-Plane 12, which we previously discussed in another No Money Monday. Although smaller in scale, Ehindur maintains the same high quality with Bømoen. The airport features outstanding custom objects, runway markings, and night lighting. Bømoen is a fantastic destination for those seeking a scenic flight, offering an alternative to the usual Airbus and Boeing experiences that many of us are accustomed to.
