It’s that time of week again, so it’s time for another edition of No Money Mondays, where each week, we delve to find the community’s best creations to showcase! This week, we’re headed to the beautiful western coast of Australia, where we’re checking out the amazing work of CoolGunS and their amazing rendition of Port Hedland Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator!

Port Hedland airport opened in 1921 mostly serving mail flights. The first terminal was constructed in 1940, and has gone under many renovations since, including major recent upgrades in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Port Hedland is served by many regional and major Australian airlines such as Qantas and their subsidiary QantasLink, as well as Virgin Australia, Alliance Airlines, and Nexus Airlines. Most passenger flights are in and out of Perth, but some go to Brisbane or smaller destinations. Today, the airport serves over 400,000 passengers each year.

The in-sim version boasts many features, including:

  • A unique, new terminal.
  • Over 500 hand placed objects.
  • Seamless texture transitions.
  • Handplaced vegetation for miles and miles, nothing is random.
  • Fully fenced, to keep out kangaroos.
  • Detailed car parks, including quick drop off and pickup, short term and long term parking.
  • Roads leading into and out of the airport, with signage and line work.
  • Bus terminal with awaiting passengers.
  • True to size car rental block.
  • Reproduction of the insane, crazy, complicated linework on the main apron. Good luck following them!
  • Worn and cracked aprons, with repairs, tire wear and grime.
  • Separate GA apron, buildings and fuel bowsers.
  • Lighted helipads, with a heli-start for you chopper pilots.
  • Transportation hub and Service Station.
  • The old decommissioned Control Tower area and buildings.
  • Navigraph-matched taxiways, aprons and parking.
  • Edge lights, centre lights and signage.
  • Service vehicles and boarding stairs (although these are static for now).
  • And much much more!
